Arts
Leaders Proclaim
From Linda Geleris, Founder of SongNet:
"Glenn Horton's vision of artistic community continues
to evolve and take root in Southern California and beyond.
Since it's inception, his Creative
Line magazine has nurtured and recognized the original
works of creative artists from many fields including visual
art, creative writing and music (to name a few.)
"A Call to the Arts at Cal State Northridge was simply
a physical manifestation of what the Creative Line
has been doing in print for several years; forging a
modern-day Bloomsbury Group; a London community which included
Lytton Strachey - the biographer, Virginia Woolf (Mrs.
Dalloway,) E.M. Forster (A Passage to India,) John
Maynard Keynes - an eminent economist, Northrop Frye - a
painter, and others. Leonard Woolf, Virginia's husband,
founded the Hogarth Press which published the poetry
of T.S. Eliot.
The Call to Arts! was a great success, and bears
repeating. The warm, friendly, atmosphere was beautified by
stunning paintings, drawings and sculptures, which were
entered into a juried art contest and displayed prominently. Meanwhile, poetry and music flowed from two
stages and there were classrooms full of songwriters taking
notes from L.A.'s leading experts on songwriting, music
production, and the business of getting your songs heard.
In the main hall there were endless tables of numerous
organizations dedicated to serving the creative person. All
the songwriters' networks were out in full force, sharing their
knowledge and love of songs with prospective members.
"The time has come for A Call to the Arts. Glenn heeded his
call and if you are a creative artist, so should you. Sign up
for the August Expo." Linda Geleris Founder of SongNet
"The
event was great and well worth the time! I made many
great contacts that I am following up with at present. I
appreciated the opportunity to be a panelist, and found this
to be the most impactful part of the day for me. The feedback
I received from other panelists and the panel attendees was
awesome." Tom Leu, The Musicians' Corner, Chicago, IL
"Thank you for inviting me to participate on the Art
Marketing Panel at the Arts Expo on April 19th.... Many
of the artists in the audience came to speak with me after the
event, and also spoke about my comments to artist John Paul
Thornton, whom I represent. The feedback we received was
very positive: the artists seemed to appreciate what I
was talking about. I would therefore like to offer my
services again to you and your organization." Margaret
Danielak, Artist's Representative, Danielak Art
"The Call to Arts! Expo is an
excellent forum for artists of all genres, styles and tastes
to come together, crossing boundaries and opinions. I
feel the world today is not only living in a revolution of
cultural, artistic, economic and industrial change, but it is
imperative that in order for global harmony we must
"cross the boundaries," expand our artistic endeavors
and bring communities together through events like this.
We can no longer reinvent the wheel, but there is so much we
can do in melding various ideas, projects and creativity
together. I feel the Call to Arts! Expo has this high
mission and I saw it blossoming at the event that occurred at
Northridge. Congrats on a job well done and I look
forward to participating in the ongoing Expos on a larger
level." Gilli Moon
Poly-media Artist, Author, Musician, President of Songsalive!
